PUI Senior Student is crowned as “Asia’s Sudoku Queen” again
Sarah Jane Cua, a fourth-year high school student at the Pangasinan Universal Institute in Dagupan City, defeated 50 professionals and students from Singapore, China, Thailand, Indonesia, India, and Malaysia to emerge as grand champion in the BRAND’S Asia-Pacific Sudoku Challenge 2010 in Singapore on Sunday.
As champion, Cua won a cash prize of 10,000 Singapore dollars (about P332,643), S$300 BRAND’S Hamper, a glass trophy, and a certificate.
This is the second time that Sarah Jane emerged as champion in the Brand’s Sudoku Challenge.
In 2008, after placing second in the 3rd Philippine Sudoku Super Challenge, Cua represented the Philippines in the BRAND’S® Sudoku Challenge 2008 Asia- Pacific Open in Singapore, where she was declared champion for the first time.
Cua was also the winner for two consecutive years – in 2009 and 2010 – In the Philippine Sudoku Super Challenge, the competition which gave her the opportunity to represent the Philippines in Sudoku contests in Thailand and the United States.
Last year, Cua placed second in the 3rd Brand’s Sudoku Thailand International Open 2009 Princess Somsawali Cup in Bangkok.
She was last featured in What’s Up Dagupan? for being Philippines’ Sudoku Grandmaster when she was still a Junior student in February 2010.
